What's the difference between an English Cocker Spaniel and an American Cocker Spaniel, you say? Not so long ago, American and English Cocker Spaniels were considered to be the same breed. The decision to classify them as separate breeds was made in the 1930s, when it became apparent that the two breeds were different.

One difference is size. The English cocker spaniel is larger than the American cocker spaniel. They also have different body types. English Cocker Spaniels are adaptable and can even live well in an apartment, as long as they get daily exercise to keep fit. This is a breed with very high stamina, so they will enjoy long, fast walks, sports such as agility or flyball.

Puppies have different exercise needs. From 9 weeks to 4 months of age, little exercise, training and socialization is needed, plus 15-20 minutes of play in the yard in the morning and evening.
